Level 2 Biology

Subject Description

Teacher in Charge: C. Northage.

Students will undertake field work to study community patterns in an ecosystem. The focus then moves to individual organisms and, in particular, learning about the diversity of animal circulatory and gas exchange systems. Finally we learn about gene expression, genetic variation and genetic change [evolution].

This is a recommended course for students considering tertiary study in Health Sciences, AgriCommerce, AgriScience, Medical Laboratory Science, Veterinary Science and Technology, Biomedical Science, Nursing, Dental Technology, Physical Education and numerous majors in a Science or Applied Science degree.

Entry Guidelines

The best preparation for this course is to study NCEA Level 1 Science and gain the Biology Achievement Standard (External). Entry without meeting this can be discussed with the Teacher in Charge or Head of Faculty

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

$25 Biology Workbooks (one for the internal standards and one for the external standards).
