Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: L. Muir.
This course will include learning opportunities that create a foundational knowledge of the subject, as intended by the revised NCEA Level 1. The Big Ideas and Significant Learning here will be the focus and this can then be assessed through the new Achievement Standards. Students will be offered assessment opportunities for a selection of these standards based on their progress through the course and how ready they are. It is expected that all students will be able to attempt three NCEA Level 1 assessments throughout each course for around 15 credits. Kaiako (teachers) are looking forward to developing exciting, practical and flexible courses around these features as well as assessments from the new standards in time for implementation in 2024.
Subject Overview
Term 1
Learners will prepare a performance in groups or individually for the twilight notes concert.
Term 2
Ākonga will be writing music in a style of their choice
Term 3
Learners will select a piece of music and recreate it using music technology.
Term 4
The class will organise and design a concert.
Entry Guidelines
The best preparation for this course is to study Year 10 Music or performance skills equivalent to someone who has had two years of lessons. Entry without meeting this can be discussed with the Teacher in Charge or Head of Faculty.
