Level 1 Applied Science

Students will build on a foundation of scientific knowledge and skills gained in Years 9 and 10 to explore how the natural, physical, and material worlds work so that they can participate as critical, informed, and responsible citizens in a society in which Science plays a significant role. The units of work are designed to help students understand the world around them and to develop a wide range of practical skills. Practical work is a major part of this course.
Note that all standards offered are internal standards and so this course is not eligible for subject endorsement.
Four achievement standards will be completed during this course - an example of a possible course is listed below.
Year 10 Science teacher to make a recommendation.
Total Credits Available: 16 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 16 credits.
An individual course will only run if sufficient students are accepted into the course.
All approvals for courses through this system are subject to satisfactory achievement in remaining internal standards and external examinations. Course Confirmation Day will run at the start of next year, where final approval for each course will be confirmed.
