Year 9 Arts

Subject Description

During the year, students complete 13 week blocks in 3 areas: Visual Arts, Dance/Drama and Music.

Visual Arts

An introduction to the Visual Arts. Students will explore key elements and principles within visual art. A range of media and techniques will be used to create original artwork. Projects will be based on the creative processes of established artists.

Dance/Drama

An introduction to the Performing Arts of Dance and Drama. The course aims to build social and performance confidence by focusing on the practical. Students will be taught improvising and devising skills, with the emphasis on group co-operation and participation. There is a focus on creating original work and exploring where both dance and drama came from and where they fit into society today.

Music

An introduction to Music. Students will gain practical knowledge of music through listening to and responding to a wide range of music. They will learn skills in playing music and will acquire understanding of how music is composed. They will have opportunities to create and make music and will reflect on the effectiveness of their own and other’s compositions and performances.
