Level 1 Fashion and Design Technology
Teacher in Charge: Y. Pochon
This course will appeal to students who have a passion for fashion and design and wish to learn the basic skills needed to begin a pathway into a career where innovation and problem-solving are desirable.
The emphasis of the course is to develop and enhance design and construction skills learnt over years 9 and 10. It is a highly practical course where learning the fundamental basic skills required to follow, adapt and create garments from patterns will be the core focus. Alongside construction skills, students learn how to create simple fashion illustrations, as drawing the figure and garments accurately is essential for a successful designer.
The course requires a high level of commitment, as all the practical work for NCEA is assessed in class. There is a large proportion of research which must be completed out of school.
All students must be prepared to source their own materials and accessories for all garments that are designed and constructed. (Toile fabric, dyes, and basic sewing materials are supplied).
