Level 1 Drama
Teacher in Charge: Ms A. Millard
From the general approach in the junior school, this course narrows the focus and explores the techniques of acting in the theatre and beyond. Students explore the Drama ‘elements’ and ‘techniques’ to create multiple devised and scripted performances in groups. There is a focus on live performance, and the interaction between audience and performer. Students are required to make some written judgments about how their own techniques and others’ communicates meaning.
A full class production, a live theatre outing to the Nelson Arts Festival, and specialist workshops are integrated into the course. Year 11 lays the co-operative groundwork for the ‘ensemble’ nature of the Year 12 and 13 class: Whakaari Matua.
