Entry Guidelines

The best preparation for this course is Year 10 English.

Placement in this course will be made at the recommendation of Year 10 English teachers, partly informed by junior common assessment tasks. Students and parents/caregivers are likely to be consulted prior to placement. The final decision will rest with the Head of Faculty.

English is the study, use, and enjoyment of the English language, communicated orally, visually, and in writing, for a range of purposes and audiences and in a variety of forms. It is creative and critical, receptive and productive. In Aotearoa New Zealand, the study of English incorporates mātauranga Māori and considers our place in the Pacific.  The Big Ideas and Significant Learning (link) will be the focus of this course. A differentiated learning programme will be developed around student needs and interests. The main aim is to improve reading and writing literacy.
