Students will take on a leadership role in Whakaari Matua, the split-level senior drama ensemble of Year 12 and 13s. It is an incredibley productive year, with choices of performance work including studying Theatre of the Absurd,  a play of choice for production, directing, and devising. The external exam on a live performance continues to be an  element.

A whole class production off-site a, a live theatre outing to the Nelson Arts Festival, and specialist workshops are integrated into the course. Year 13 students are expected to lead by example with attendance and effort, and will be mentored to lead activities and think about the nature of co-operation, responsibility, and their motivations to perform.

While four internal standards are offered through this course, most students will attempt three internal assessments as well as the external exam.
