Entry GuidelinesThe best preparation for this course is to study NCEA Level 1 Science and gain the Biology Achievement Standard (External). Entry without meeting this can be discussed with the Head of Faculty.
Students will carry out an investigation under supervision looking at osmosis. The focus then moves to individual organisms and, in particular, learning about the diversity of animal circulatory and gas exchange systems. Finally we learn about gene expression, genetic variation and genetic change [evolution].
This is a recommended course for students considering tertiary study in Health Sciences, AgriCommerce, AgriScience, Medical Laboratory Science, Veterinary Science and Technology, Biomedical Science, Nursing, Dental Technology, Physical Education and numerous majors in a Science or Applied Science degree.
$25 Biology Workbooks (one for the internal standards and one for the external standards).
An individual course will only run if sufficient students are accepted into the course.
All approvals for courses through this system are subject to satisfactory achievement in remaining internal standards and external examinations. Course Confirmation Day will run at the start of next year, where final approval for each course will be confirmed.
